Bell Hall

The Bell Hall project, led by the Municipality of North Grenville in partnership with Cahdco, aims to transform the existing Kemptville Campus dormitory into 60 affordable, energy-efficient, and accessible rental housing units.

The project addresses a critical housing need for North Grenville by dedicating 50% of its units to two priority groups identified under the National Housing Strategy, seniors and veterans. More than 33% of all units will be Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) units expanding the Municipality’s supply of affordable housing.

As a historic landmark within the community, the project is committed to preserving the building’s exterior façade and maintaining it’s character. By maintaining the existing concrete structure, the project conserves a significant amount of embodied carbon, reducing the environmental impact associated with demolition and reconstruction. In addition, reducing the building’s carbon footprint will exceed the energy efficiency requirements and contribute to the long-term environmental impact.

Inside, renovations will incorporate various shared spaces including amenity rooms and seating areas that encourage community interaction and engagement. To accommodate accessibility, the design incorporates two elevators, widened hallways, improved ramps, and other barrier-free features. The building will provide 19 fully accessible residential units and be situated within approximately 500 acres of surrounding greenspace.
