Cahdco, the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa, and the Ottawa Community Land Trust are back this fall with more morning panel discussions on affordable housing topics!

How might the community housing sector acquire affordable housing units at-risk of being lost – especially ones that are currently part of the private, speculative real estate market? Acquisitions by non-profit and co-operative housing providers, or community land trusts, are one way to scale the community-owned portfolio of affordable housing in Ottawa. The City of Ottawa is currently assessing the possibilities for a policy and/or fund to advance this work. To inform this discussion, the Alliance to End Homelessness has engaged Steve Pomeroy to develop a brief report on “Developing an Acquisition Framework and Policy for the City of Ottawa”

Join us on October 2, from 8:30 – 10:00 am, at 464 Metcalfe St. to hear about Pomeroy’s report and a series of recommendations for City staff and Council in advance of a planned discussion of the City’s report later in October.

When it comes to energy efficiency, carbon is the new metric for building performance. But how does carbon measurement relate to the operations of buildings? What does it mean for the planning of future buildings? Join Stephen Pope (CSV Sustainability Consultant and Board Chair of the ATHENA Sustainable Materials Institute ) to explore the process used to document the climate change impacts of building construction and operations. Life-cycle assessments (LCA), which historically have been used by manufacturers to improve their products through dematerialization and manufacturing process improvement, are now being applied to buildings and building components. Join us to see how carbon measurement can work for you as an operator and developer.
