Cahdco Is Looking for New Board Members!

Are you passionate about the City of Ottawa and affordable housing? Do you want to make a real impact in your community? Do you want to grow your professional development skills alongside a thoughtful group of volunteers? If this sounds like you, you should consider running for Cahdco’s Board of Directors!

Board members are responsible for the effective governance of the organization, consistent with our mission and values. The Board is the ultimate authority for all of Cahdco’s activities. Ideal board members will have experience with real estate development, non-profit or business management, organizational administration, law, accounting, or the affordable housing sector. These are great skills, however Cahdco also recognizes the value of different perspectives, lived experience, a commitment to the mission combined with a willingness to learn, and more. The Board of Directors is supported by the expertise of Cahdco staff, who carry out day-to-day operations.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and actively participate in Board meetings occurring approximately every two months
  • Contribute to the development of Cahdco’s next Business Plan
  • Ensure Cahdco meets its Mission, Vision & Values
  • Advise and contribute to project and organizational initiatives
  • Approve Cahdco’s participation in projects through an established risk assessment process
  • Advise on appropriate performance indicators and measures aligned with Cahdco’s current and future Business Plan
  • Oversee financial performance against the Business Plan on a quarterly basis
  • Support Cahdco legal decision-making, as needed
  • Advise and support management system implementation per the Business Plan
  • Ensure adequate human resources to carry out work and report on any budget impact

 

Time Commitment

  • Members are appointed to the Board for 1-year terms that can be extended
  • The Board meets once every two months. Board meetings currently take place virtually. When meetings are held in-person, they take place at Cahdco’s office, located at 415 Gilmour Street, 2nd floor (wheelchair accessible).
  • Meetings are held from 4-6 pm the third Tuesday of the month.
  • You will need to schedule time to read the Board package and prepare for the meeting. The Board package contains all of the documents that will be discussed at the upcoming meeting.
  • Cahdco can cover your costs of family care and transportation if needed. Just ask!
